200,000 Expected to Greet Pope Benedict in Scotland in September 2010...

Officials in Glasgow, Scotland have released information on an official visit by Pope Benedict to the country.

The Pope will visit the city's Bellahouston Park and it is expected that the park will host over 200,000 worshippers.

For parking alone, experts believe that 25 miles of roadspace will be needed for parked buses and vehicles. Bus companies will need 2,000 coaches, borrowing some from their partners in England to help transport everyone from Scotland, Ireland and the north of England to Glasgow.

This is going to be Scotland's biggest logistical operation of its kind, and the Pope's first ever official state visit (last visit Pope John Paul II in 1982 but it was not a state visit) to Scotland, and the UK.

The pope is due in Scotland as part of a four leg state visit of the UK between the 16th & 19th September.

Pope Benedict was invited by the Queen, herself a church leader, as she is the Supreme Governor of the Church of England.

Glasgow is due to host the Commonwealth Games in 2014 and they hope to learn a lot from his visit, one official has described it as 'a dry run' to practice handling so many people at the one time.

The Queen and the Pope will meet in Edinburgh at the Palace of Holyroodhouse.
