Pope Benedict Calls Shroud of Turin 'Icon' of Christ's Solidarity with Humanity...

"You must enter the houses of your God properly clothed and with goodness of heart, not disporting yourselves as pagans.

The Shroud of Turin is an icon of "the most radical solidarity": Christ sharing the loneliest moment of human existence by lying in a tomb, Pope Benedict XVI said after he knelt in silent prayer before the linen cloth.

The pope did not discuss the authenticity of the shroud as the cloth used to wrap the dead body of Jesus, but he said it clearly "is a burial cloth that wrapped the body of a man who was crucified in a way corresponding completely to what the Gospels tell us of Jesus."

Pope Benedict paid a daylong visit to Turin May 2, celebrating an outdoor Mass, venerating the shroud in Turin's cathedral, meeting with young people and visiting the sick.

During his evening visit to the exposition of the shroud, which is on public display until May 23, the 83-year-old pope said that while he has seen it before, this time there was a special "intensity, perhaps because the passing of years has made me more sensitive to the message of this extraordinary icon."

The Bible accounts say that Jesus was in the tomb from Friday night to dawn on Sunday -- a time that was "chronologically brief, but immense, infinite in its value and meaning," the pope said.

For a day and a half, Jesus' body lay dead in the tomb and it appeared as if God had hidden himself from the world, the pope said.

Most modern men and women have had the experience of God seeming to hide from them and from the world, he said. Even if they cannot explain their feeling in those terms, they experience "a void in their hearts that spreads," he said.

"After the two world wars, the concentration camps and gulags, Hiroshima and Nagasaki, our age became increasingly a Holy Saturday," the day when Jesus' body lay lifeless in the tomb, the pope said.

"We have all had the frightening sensation of having been abandoned, which is precisely the part of death that makes us so afraid; like children we are afraid to be alone in the dark and only the presence of a person who loves us can reassure us," Pope Benedict said.

As with a "photographic document" with a positive and negative image, he said, the shroud conveys that "the darkest mystery of faith is at the same time the brightest sign of a hope without limits" because it reminds people that Christ willingly embraced death to give all people the possibility of eternal life.

"The shroud is an icon written with blood: the blood of a man flagellated, crowned with thorns, crucified and wounded on his right side," exactly as the Gospels say Jesus was, the pope said.

Visiting the sick immediately after venerating the shroud, the pope said that in the linen cloth, which is about 14 feet long and 43 inches wide, Christians see not only a sign of intense suffering, but also a sign of the power of the resurrection that transforms suffering into redemption.

"Living your suffering in union with the crucified and risen Christ, you participate in the mystery of his suffering for the salvation of the world," the pope told the sick.

"By offering our pain to God through Christ, we can collaborate in the victory of good over evil because God makes our offering -- our act of love -- fruitful," he said.

At the morning Mass in the city's St. Charles Square, the pope said the shroud is a reminder that Jesus, who died for the sins of humanity, also rose from the death.

In the shroud, "we see reflections of our suffering in the suffering of Christ," he said. "Precisely for this reason it is a sign of hope: Christ faced the cross to erect a barrier against evil, to allow us to see in his resurrection an anticipation of that moment when, for us, too, every tear will be dried and there will be no more death, nor mourning, wailing nor pain," he said.

On the eve of the pope's visit, the Archdiocese of Turin said more than 1.7 million people had made reservations for a specific time to view the shroud up close during its April 10-May 23 exposition. The archdiocese also said it expected an average of 70,000 visitors each week to arrive without reservations; they are allowed to view the shroud from farther away in the central aisle of the cathedral.

Jesus is truly present in the Most Blessed Sacrament...

Jesus spoke simply to mankind in the Bible.  When He said: "This is My Body," I believe it, because Jesus said it and He meant what He said.  God can do anything. 

    In the year 700 there was a priest who had doubts of the real presence of Our Lord in the Most Blessed Sacrament. One day at Mass he prayed that his doubts would be removed. As he said the words Consecration the Host turned into Flesh and the wine turned into Blood.

    What type of Flesh and Blood was it? In 1970 the Holy See ordered a thorough scientific investigation using spectroscopic analysis, high powered microscopes and advanced medical technology. The most illustrious scientist, Professor Odoardo Linoli, eminent professor in anatomy and pathological and clinical microscopy, headed the investigation and was assisted by Professor Ruggero Bertellie of the University of Sienna. The investigation showed the Host had turned into flesh, into a fine slice of a human heart, and was incorrupt, as though it had just been taken from a heart.

    The analyses were conducted with unquestionable scientific precision and were documented with a series of photographs, (these photographs can be seen on the Internet at http://www.acfp2000.com/Miracles/eucharistic.html) which were made public by Professor Linoli on March 4, 1971 in the church of the miracle.

    Other scientists were asked by the Holy See to verify these findings. When all of the data was accumulated, the scientists were in accord: "Without reservation, this is a slice of tissue from a human heart, as though it had been expertly sliced by a surgeon's scalpel through the center of the heart. And, though subject to decay as all flesh is for 1298 years, it remains incorrupt." These findings were published in September 1971 in the official newspaper of the Vatican, L’Osservatore Romano.

    The Flesh and the Blood have the same blood type: AB uncovered in the Holy Shroud of Turin.  In scientific testing the Blood tested as if it were fresh living blood after almost 1300 years.

    Various ecclesiastical investigations were conducted since 1574.

     In 1970-'71 and taken up again partly in 1981 there took place a scientific investigation by the most illustrious scientist Prof. Odoardo Linoli, eminent Professor in Anatomy and Pathological Histology and in Chemistry and Clinical Microscopy.  Prof. Ruggero Bertelli of the University of Siena assisted him.  The analyses were conducted with absolute and unquestionable scientific precision and they were documented with a series of microscopic photographs.

These analyses sustained the following conclusions:

• The Flesh is real Flesh. The Blood is real Blood.
• The Flesh and the Blood belong to the human species.
• The Flesh consists of the muscular tissue of the heart.
• In the Flesh we see present in section: the myocardium, the endocardium, the vagus nerve and also the left ventricle of the heart for the large thickness of the myocardium.
• The Flesh is a "HEART" complete in its essential structure.
• The Flesh and the Blood have the same blood type: AB (Blood type identical to that which Prof. Baima Bollone uncovered in the Holy Shroud of Turin).
• In the Blood there were found proteins in the same normal proportions (percentage-wise) as are found in the sero-proteic make-up of the fresh normal blood.
• In the Blood there were also found these minerals: chlorides, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium, sodium and calcium.
• The preservation of the Flesh and of the Blood, which were left in their natural state for twelve centuries and exposed to the action of atmospheric and biological agents, remains an extraordinary phenomenon.

    In conclusion, it may be said that Science, when called upon to testify, has given a certain and thorough response as regards the authenticity of the Eucharistic Miracle of Lanciano, Italy.

Jesus gives us His Heart in the Most Blessed Sacrament, the Sacrament of His Love...

Mother Theresa…
In 1963 the nuns in Mother Theresa’s convent started making a Holy Hour each week. In 1973 she and her sisters started making a Holy Hour each day and then her religious order began to really grow and blossom. Today she is legendary. She has hundreds of convents around the world and thousands of nuns in her order taking care of the poor. This is an example of the fruits from making a daily Holy Hour before Our Lord in the Most Blessed Sacrament.

One hour…
Our Lord is asking you as He did His disciples in the Garden of Gethsemani; "Could you not watch one hour with me?"  Everyone should make a Holy Hour each week. If you are really a fully dedicated worker of Our Lady and if you really want Our Lady of the Roses apostolate to grow and blossom, you will make a Holy Hour each day.

Weekly Holy Hour...
Malachi Martin said that in June 1988 Pope John Paul II wrote a letter to the universal Church asking each bishop to institute in every parish every week an holy hour of adoration.  He asked that the Rosary and suitable prayers be said for two motives; that the Holy Ghost would send good priests to the Church, and that the chastisements mentioned at Fatima would be mitigated.

A dying young mother cured of cancer...
Father Aloysius Ellacuria, C.M.F., founder of the Missionaries of Perpetual Adoration, had a young mother come to him in the early 1970’s, eyes filled with tears, an aching body saturated with cancer, and given little hope to live.  He took her into the chapel asking her, "Have you ever asked Our Lord to cure you?"  "No," she replied.   "Well he said, "Let us kneel down right here in the front of the Most Blessed Sacrament, and ask Him to cure you.  You know Our Lord is really present in the Most Blessed Sacrament; do you believe that?"  "Yes," she promptly replied.
    Father continued, "Our Lord is the same as He who walked on this earth 2,000 years ago; and who blessed the sick and healed the sick.  Do you believe that He is the same Lord that is living here in this Most Blessed Sacrament?"   "Yes, He is," was her pain filled response.  "Well, He cured them and He can cure you."  Together they prayed a series of Our Father’s, Hail Mary’s, and Glory Be’s.  After three of each the woman, startled, said: "Father, I don’t think it is necessary to continue to go on – I feel healed."
    The next day X-rays were taken of the young mother and the astonished doctor said: "All the cells that were attacked by cancer are now like the cells of a new-born baby."
    This was but one of the many cures Father Aloysius witnessed while imploring assistance from Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament.

The "Little Miracle"...
Father Leloir was interned at Buchenwald, where at 6 p.m. each day the prisoners and deportees were lined up for inspection by the S.S. troops.  On the evening of August 23, 1944, Father Leloir had carefully concealed on his person a small white envelope containing six consecrated Hosts, which he intended to distribute secretly among his comrades. The presence of the Blessed Sacrament on the person of the priest was known to several fellow-prisoners.
    Consternation filled all when the soldiers began to search the prisoners one by one. What would be the fate of the priest when the envelope containing the Hosts was found? Too well they knew what punishment would be given him.
    And what unspeakable irreverence would be done to the Sacred Hosts!
    Down the line the S.S. troops contemptuously searched each man, and finally came Father Lelior’s turn. Into his pockets one after another the Nazi soldiers pried, and found the “evidence.” Father Leloir stood erect, a trifle pale, but silently praying to the Lord whose Precious Body was within the folds of the white envelope. His companions trembled and grew faint.
    With an insolent air the S.S. guard tore open the envelope. Several prisoners gasped. Father Leloir stared in open amazement-as the Nazi soldiers threw the envelope scornfully to the ground saying: “Just an empty envelope.”
    Just an empty envelope! The Hosts had disappeared! To prevent the desecration of the Sacred Hosts and to save the priest and his fellow Catholics from certain punishment, perhaps death, Our Lord had worked this “little miracle!”

Flying Hosts... 
One of the last Sundays (June 21^st or 28^th, 1970) at the seven o’clock Mass, in the Beauceville church (Quebec, Canada), the parish priest, Father Charles Eugene Houde (about 50 years old) was the celebrant.  He had already told his parishioners that they were permitted to receive the Holy Host in their hands, according to the directives given by the Archbishop of Quebec.  This day, before the Mass, he told his parishioners the following: “Henceforth, to avoid complications, everyone of you will receive the Host in your hand for Communion."  That was against the Bishop’s directions that allowed the people the freedom to take the Host either in their hand or in their mouth.
    At the moment of the Communion of the Mass Father Houde turned to the people, holding the Ciborium in his hand.  Before he had time to take a single Host and take a single step, about fifty consecrated Hosts flew out of the Ciborium by themselves.  They went up into the air, circling themselves around and around the priest, then slowly fell to the ground.
    Father Houde was so struck by the prodigy that his faced turned white as snow and for a few minutes he remained motionless.  Being interiorly inspired he said to the faithful who were approaching the altar, “Henceforth, all of you will receive the Holy Host on your tongue, not in your hand, because God just gave us a sign.”
    The priest knelt down and picked the Holy Hosts scattered on the carpet, and distributed Holy Communion.  Back in the presbytery he said, “Never again in my life will I give Holy Communion in the hand.”
