Pope Benedict XVI Says St. Joan of Arc is an Example of Service for Politicians Today...

St. Joan of Arc – “Avec moi! Avec moi! With me! With me!  Oh!  Be with me in the fight and battle ahead.  We are watching well. The ultimate victory will be with those of Heaven.  Do not be afeared, for satan will only capture those who turn completely from the Father. You will not walk upon earth without trial.  I accepted my trial to win my crown in Heaven.” - June 8, 1972

Vatican Radio reported on January 26, 2011:

St. Joan of Arc is "a beautiful example of holiness for lay people involved in politics”, especially in “the most difficult situations". Continuing his series of lessons on the great women in the Church of the Middle Ages, Pope Benedict XVI dedicated his Wednesday audience to the French saint burnt at the stake in 1430, at the young age of 18.

Raised in a religious family, Joan enjoyed mystical experiences from an early age. At a time of crisis in the Church and of war in her native France, she felt God’s call to a life of prayer and virginity, and to personal engagement in the liberation of her compatriots. At the age of seventeen, Joan began her mission among the French military forces; she sought to negotiate a just Christian peace between the English and French, took an active part in the siege of Orleans and witnessed the coronation of Charles VII at Rheims. Captured by her enemies in 1429, she was tried by an ecclesiastical court and burnt at the stake as a heretic; she died invoking the name of Jesus.

In comments in Italian he described her as “one of those strong women who brought the light of the Gospel in history to the end of the Middle Ages", whose luminous witness invites us to a high standard of Christian life: making prayer the mainstay of our days, following the will of God whatever it may be, living love without favoritisms and without limits".

Pope Benedict observed that her trial “is a shocking page in the history of the Saints and also an illuminating page on the mystery of the Church which, in the words of Vatican II, is at once holy and always in need of purification. It was a dramatic encounter between this Saint and her judges, who were clergymen. Joan was accused by them and found guilty, to be condemned as a heretic and sent to the terrible death of the fire". 

He says her judges were "theologians who lacked the charity and humility to see the action of God in this young woman " and who bring to mind the words of Jesus, "the mysteries of God are revealed to those who have the hearts of children, while remaining hidden from the learned and wise. " Thus, Joan’s judges "were fundamentally unable to understand her, to see the beauty of her soul: they did not know they were condemning Saint”.

However, concluded Pope Benedict “her unjust condemnation was overturned twenty-five years later. At the heart of Saint Joan’s spirituality was an unfailing love for Christ and, in Christ, for the Church and for her neighbour. May the prayers and example of Saint Joan of Arc inspire many lay men and women to devote themselves to public life in the service of God’s Kingdom, and encourage all of us to live to the fullest our lofty calling in Christ”.

     "The children of God, the candles upon earth, My child, shall suffer much persecution from the agents of darkness.
     "Man runs amiss, My child. He scatters the sheep. He seeks peace where there is no peace. He is going farther into darkness.
     "You shall not gather your flocks, My pastors, by compromising your Faith! You shall not gather the flocks for the Eternal Father in Heaven by giving yourselves to the world, by adopting humanism and modernism as your guide.
     "It is a simple lesson of faith that you must give to the children and to all in your care. As pastor you shall stand before Me and shall you say to Me that your teaching has been pure in My sight? Amen I say unto you, I shall cast you from Me and send you into the abyss. I know it's a girl, but she has on a very strange looking clothing. Oh! Oh, I know now it's ... oh, who it is—Joan of Arc!
     Now Jesus is coming over, and He's placing His hand upward.

     Veronica – Ah! Over on the left side of the flagpole is a young girl, and she is dressed in black. And she is holding up a cross in her right hand, and she’s got—well, she’s got something written on her robe, but—it looks like a red heart. And she has a small gold crown on her head. Oh! Gemma. 
     Oh, and there—oh! Everybody kneel, please. Jesus is coming down. Jesus is dressed in a red robe, it looks like. No, it’s white, but the light is red—makes it look like red. Oh, and Jesus now is standing over by Our Lady. Our Lady isn’t crying any more. She looks much more happy than before. And Jesus has placed His arm around His Mother, and He said to His Mother:  - June 8, 1972

Oh, my! Walking behind Jesus is this figure of—I thought it was a man at first, but now I can see it's a tomboyish-looking girl. Oh, I know who it is now; it's Joan of Arc. Oh, she's carrying a very large wooden cross. It has no corpus on it. And she's dressed in very strange-looking garments, almost like a warrior. She has like metal all over her waist. And it's like a dress formation, but very heavy armor. That's what it is; it's armor. Now she's holding the cross now high, as high as she can, with its weight over her—you know, in front of her but up over her head. Now she's just standing there. And Michael is coming forward with Jesus. - Veronica, November 20, 1976

Now the other angels in between are in bright white. But they have also very sparkling trim. I believe it’s a silver trim going right down to their feet. And now behind them—oh! Oh, coming forward is Saint Joan of Arc; I recognize her. Oh, and she is carrying this banner, and I see on the banner “So be it.” It’s written, “So be it.” - Veronica, September 28, 1972
