Rev. Marcus Buckley of Riverside Baptist Church Protests Animal Rights PETA Who Want Pronouns in the Bible Revised...

When it comes to translating the Bible, gender identification is often targeted.  For example, the New International Version (NIV) had been sharply criticized by fundamentalists such as the Southern Baptist Convention for being too gender neutral.  As a result, the latest NIV bible has been edited so that it is more gender specific to accommodate patriarchal views.

The latest criticism of the NIV is coming from the animal rights activist organization PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals).  PETA says that animals should not be described as "it" in the bible and should be referred to as "he" or "she."

The Rev. Marcus Buckley of Riverside Baptist Church says that using gender pronouns instead of "it" when referring to animals would be changing the Word of God to match personal worldviews instead of biblical worldviews.  Buckley says that PETA is "completely over the top."
