Rome Reports reported on May 11, 2011:

During the general audience, Benedict XVI  explained how praying on one's knees isn't a symbol of slavery or poverty, but a way to recognize one's limits and the need for God.

From pre-historic times to the digital age, history shows that humans have used prayer to search for God and give meaning to their lives. 

Benedict XVI 
“Man is made in the image of God; a desire for God is present in every heart and man in some way knows that he is capable of speaking to God in prayer.” 

The pope explained that praying is not always easy. It requires an inner attitude that goes far beyond the mere repetition of words or formulas.  

Benedict XVI 
“Let us resolve to pray more frequently, to listen in the silence of our hearts to God’s voice, and to grow in union with the God who has revealed himself in Jesus Christ.”

The pope added that prayer is a gift and also a challenge that we must ask from God. 

Benedict XVI, reminded the public that the month of May is dedicated to the Virgin Mary.  He also invited everyone to pray the rosary more often. Among the nearly 15,000 attendees at the general audience, there was this little orchestra that dedicated a special melody to the pope.
