Jesuits Want to Recall Pro-Life Governor...

Father Thomas A. Lawler, SJ, a member of the Marquette University Board of Trustees and provincial of the Wisconsin Province of the Jesuits, has joined more than twenty-five other Wisconsin Jesuits in signing a petition supporting the recall of Governor Scott Walker.
At least seven of the signers may be Marquette University professors and staff; they each reported residing at the Jesuit residence at Marquette University, and their names match the following University employees: Rev. Robert Doran, S.J., Professor and Emmett Doerr Chair of Theology, Rev. Gregory O’Meara, S.J., Associate Professor in the School of Law, Rev. James O’Leary, S.J., Associate Director of the Faber Center for Ignatian Spirituality, Rev. Grant Garinger, S.J., Artistic Assistant Professor in the Diederich College of Communication, Rev. David Schultenover, S.J., Professor of Theology and Editor-in-Chief of Theological Studies, Rev. G. Harak, S.J., Director of the Center for Peacemaking, Rev. Michael Zeps, S.J., Associate Professor of History and University Minister.
The Republican governor, who has a strong-pro life record, faces a vote to determine whether he gets to stay in office tomorrow. The campaign to recall Walker, who attended Marquette but did not graduate, grew out of his budget-cutting efforts and his fight with the public service unions. Walker significantly reduced their ability to bargain collectively.
“Father Lawler did sign the petition. He has no comment and would refer you to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops information on faithful citizenship,” Rory Gillespie, spokesman for the province, told The Cardinal Newman Society.
In “Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship,” the bishops reject certain “temptations in public life”:
The first is a moral equivalence that makes no ethical distinctions between different kinds of issues involving human life and dignity. The direct and intentional destruction of innocent human life from the moment of conception until natural death is always wrong and is not just one issue among many. It must always be opposed.
With regard to voting, the bishops advise:
Catholics often face difficult choices about how to vote. This is why it is so important to vote according to a well-formed conscience that perceives the proper relationship among moral goods. A Catholic cannot vote for a candidate who takes a position in favor of an intrinsic evil, such as abortion or racism, if the voter’s intent is to support that position. In such cases a Catholic would be guilty of formal cooperation in grave evil. At the same time, a voter should not use a candidate’s opposition to an intrinsic evil to justify indifference or inattentiveness to other important moral issues involving human life and dignity.
There may be times when a Catholic who rejects a candidate’s unacceptable position may decide to vote for that candidate for other morally grave reasons. Voting in this way would be permissible only for truly grave moral reasons, not to advance narrow interests or partisan preferences or to ignore a fundamental moral evil.
Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, Walker’s Democratic opponent, is in favor of abortion rights. We would love to ask Father Lawler whether he thinks Governor Walker’s actions regarding public employee unions is one of the “grave moral reasons” that justifies opposing the pro-life candidate in favor of Barrett? But Father’s not talking.
Almost 400 Nun Signatures Found On Scott Walker Recall Petition...

At least 392 nuns participated in the left’s effort to recall Wisconsin governor Scott Walker. These Catholic gals are supposed to be pro-life and embrace traditional moral values. As a group, they seem intent on replacing the pro-life Walker with a pro-abort/pro-gay marriage secular humanist. I guess the “social justice” sisters support lefty Democrats because they have confused nanny state socialism with charity. Leftist claptrap psychobabble (think radical feminism/”gay equality”/moral relativism ETC) likely also holds a lot of appeal to them. Someone please explain to them that socialism A) doesn’t work B) involves forcible theft of the fruit of citizens’ labor B) requires surrendering liberty to secular statist central planners and C) can only be enforced by a tyranny.
Several recaller nuns acted as signature gatherers. Some acted as witnesses to their own signatures or signed twice, which is like voting twice. Many are so old that you have to wonder if they were taken advantage of by younger nuns. I bet the old ones also get a lot of “help” filling out absentee ballots.
There are many in the group with important sounding titles. For example, Sister Linda Mershon is the President of the order Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration (FSPA). Sister Celine Goessl not only signed the petition, but acted as a signature gatherer. She is listed as Provincial Superior for the Holy Cross Sisters (USA Province) and as President of the Sisters of Mercy of the Holy Cross Corporation. Sister Carol Thresher is Provincial Superior of the Sisters of the Divine Savior (USA Province). Sister Regina Pacis Meservey is a member of the Board of Trustees for Alverno College. Sister Joanne Schatzlein is a Trustee of Cardinal Stritch University. Sister Sara Jean Donegan sits on the Corporate Board of Mount Mary College. And no less than four nun recallers sit on the Board of Trustees for Viterbo University: Sister Marie DesJarlais, Sister Karen Kappell, Sister Lucy Ann Meyer and Sister Romana Klaubauf.
