The latest volley in Bishop Richard Williamson's war against Bishop Fellay and the Holy Father has come from Fr. Francois Chazal, a priest of the Society of Saint Pius X (SSPX)stationed in Asia. At the end of this post you will find a video and written transcript of a sermon give by Fr. Chazal that praises Bishop Williamson, a renowned Holocaust Denier, for thwarting Bishop Fellay's "plot" to sign a deal with Rome. This lengthy sermon is well worth taking time to listen to as it provides a perfect example of the ecclesiology taught within the SSPX.
It would be a mistake to view this sermon as politically motivated. Fr. Chazal was not known as a radical. In the SSPX US seminary, he was neither an antisemite nor a distributitst. He only cared about the faith and maintaining the spirit of Archbishop Lefebvre. You could not have a conversation with Fr. Chazal without it eventually coming back to St. Thomas Aquinas' Summa Theologica.
Fr. Chazal intelligently and passionately believes what he is saying in this sermon. In keeping with his character, he is not trying to manipulate his audience. He is clearly and honestly telling us what he believes and why.
The fact that Fr. Chazal is so honest in his presentation provides us with an opportunity to see clearly what Bishop Williamson's strategy is against Bishop Fellay and the Holy Father. For as honest and non- manipulative as Fr. Chazal is, Bishop Williamson is not. Bishop Williamson is brilliant, articulate, affable and a master strategist.
I am postulating a theory, not claiming certainty or "inside knowledge," that states that Fr. Chazals's comments in his sermon are based upon information received from those close to Bishop Williamson, if not entirely from Bishop Williamson. In fact, he indicates as much in his sermon.
Bishop Williamson just completed his Asian Confirmation tour during which he often brought up divisions within the SSPX. Fr. Chazal stated that he discussed Bishop Fellay's "plot" with Bishop Williamson. This conversation prompted Fr. Chazal to sycophantically tell Bishop Williamson that he (Williamson) was "the Savior because he was such a skunk." Chazal called Williamson a skunk because, "his 'stench (of telling the truth) keeps New-Rome from embracing the SSPX." Listening to Fr. Chazal recount this passage you can hear the master-student relationship that he still has with his former seminary rector. Fr. Chazal believes Bishop is a lion and the defender of the faith. Bishop Williamson often becomes a guru for his followers.
Based upon Fr. Chazal's sermon and the above qualifications we can reasonably believe that:
1. Bishop Williamson is actively working to undermine Bishop Fellay by attempting to thwart a reunification with Rome.

2. Bishop Williamson, Bishop Tissier de Mallerais and Bishop de Gallareta are united against the Holy Father and Bishop Fellay.

3. The SSPX might have already reunited with Rome if it were not for the leaking of the letter of the three bishops against Bishop Fellay.

4. The letter of the three bishops against Bishop Fellay was leaked by someone in the Williamson camp with the intent of thwarting a reunification of the SSPX with Rome.

5. The Williamson camp is hoping to stall an agreement long enough to take over at the SSPX General Chapter this summer.

6.The Williamson camp is apparently meeting with lawyers to discuss how to obtain SSPX owned property in the event of a split.

7. The Williamson camp is counting priests to determine how strong their position is. There is frustration that some priests keep "switching sides."

8. The Williamson faction believes that, in the event of a split, they have good control of the English district, Mexico and Asia.

9. Williamson's followers believe Rome has lost the faith. (They call it "New Rome" or "Modernist Rome".) They believe that they can reunite with Rome only when "the Papacy returns to the faith."
