The Vatican Declares Papyrus Claiming that Jesus Had a Wife a Fake...

The Tablet reported on October 1, 2012:
An ancient papyrus that suggests that Jesus had a wife is "a clumsy fake", according to a Vatican newspaper.
In a strongly worded editorial published last week, L'Osservatore Romano said that the "fourth-century" papyrus was a hoax, even though scientists have not reached a definitive conclusion on the text's authenticity. The editorial on the front page of last Friday's L'Osservatore Romano called it "a clumsy forgery (like many others that have come from the near East)". "At any rate, [it is] a fake," concluded the paper's editor, Giovanni Maria Vian.
Mr Vian also criticised Karen King, professor at Harvard Divinity School, for presenting the ancient text at a conference in Rome last week before more studies were carried out.
