St. Edith Stein on woman's nature...

"As a Mother, My heart is torn, for the example of many mothers on earth is poor. Woman, who has come from Adam, would regain her glory by childbearing. This, too, has she cast aside for the ways of darkness. No longer does she seek to purge her soul and to enter the Kingdom of the Father. Her sins multiply, for no longer does she not only miss the opportunity of purging, but she has committed murder! All the evils of the flesh.
"Women of the world reject their places as helpmates to their husbands. What manner of creature have they become? The Day of the Lord approaches fast upon you, for what has been foretold is coming to pass." - Our Lady of the Roses, March 24, 1974

The following is a beautiful reflection on woman's nature written by St. Edith Stein (Teresa Benedicta), the Jewish German philosopher who became a Carmelite nun and died in the concentration camp at Auschwitz:

"Only a feminist, in the fever of the extreme, will deny that woman's calling differs from man's, that for all their common human nature, the souls of men and women have each their own design. The clear and irrefutable word of Scripture utters what from the very beginning of the world daily experience teaches: woman is made to be the helpmate of man and his mother. For this her body is fitted and this is the endowment of her soul, tending more toward people than toward things and affairs, more toward the concrete than toward the abstract, tending always toward the living, the personal, the whole. It is the whole she wishes to foster--not, for instance, the mind at the expense of the heart, nor mind and heart at the expense of the body.

"The same motherly bent toward wholeness marks woman's cognitive life. What speaks to her first, and are her joy, are image and encounter, not concept and law, so that she does not go out after fixed and solid systems but rather opens herself to contents, wide, flowing and colorful. Her knowing, much like the artist's, is a waiting and listening to truth rather than its pursuit.... To nurse and keep and shield and help grown--this is every woman's natural motherly desire and skill, and to them are joined her desire and skill as companion. Her gift and happiness are in sharing in another person's life, and sharing means to her, sharing in everything that concerns the person she loves, in the great things and the small, in his joys and sorrows, in his work and his problems.

"A man is likely to be wrapt up in his affairs, and even more so in the cause, expecting from others interest and ready service; but more often than not, he finds it hard to bring them and their concerns into focus. For a woman, who is more nearly timeless, who is never so much a 'contemporary' as a man, this adjustment is natural. With the ease and flexibility that are her talent, she can enter sympathetically into and understand fields otherwise remote from her, in which she would have no concern were it not for her interest in a person. And it is her overflowing wealth of heart, her almost limitless ability to devote herself, her patience, that help make her partake in man's life, a partaking which awakens his strength and multiplies his achievements. She does it with patience, for while man may be able to do more, she can endure more; while he has greater thrusting power, she has more energy in store. So important in man's life is this hidden care, this rearing and mothering, that the mature man still needs it--even he, and precisely he. Not for nothing does man call his beloved his 'tender sweetheart.'

"Because man serves his cause more directly and woman more for his sake, it is appropriate that she do so under his guidance. Scripture's demand for her obedience to him as her head is not a caprice, is not against the logic of things. On the contrary, the biblical command gives word to the metaphysics of the sexes. If their partnership is seen under the image of a tree, man is the tuft, woman is the root, the whole hidden root bearing even the highest tuft and the sunlit tuft bearing even the furthest root; the root filling the top with its strength, the top governing the root by its encompassing power.

"As woman's talents are tied in her to a wounded nature, they are always in peril of being distorted. Her gift for the personal, if not guarded, may become preoccupation with herself and a desire for others' preoccupation with her; it may become vanity, an inordinate wish for praise, or an uncontrolled need for communication. On the other hand, it may turn into an excessive, indiscreet interest in others, into curiosity, gossip, intrusion. Her sense for the whole may easily lead to a scattering of her forces, to an aversion to the disciplining of her powers, to a shallow sampling of many fields, and to a possessiveness that goes far beyond genuine, motherly care. From flexibility to slavishness; from the power of bringing things together, of seeing both this and that, to ambiguity; from kinship with pain to whining; from the genius for friendship and alliance, to narrowness, partisanship and fanaticism--such are the penalties for an unhealthy exaggeration of woman's virtues. The sympathetic companion becomes an intruder who does not allow persons and things to ripen in peace and silence, and there is petty domineering where there ought to be joy and strength of service." (J. Oesterreicher, The Walls are Crumbling; quoted in The Unquiet Heart, by Jordan Aumann, O.P. and Dr. Conrad Baars)

"Do you not recognize, My children, the signs of your times? Read and learn: 'Women will become unlike women. They shall go forth, and seven women will take hold of one man and say to him: Make me as you are. I wish to eat your bread.' [see Isaias 4:1]
"Know, My child, this simple lesson, that in these days of the latter times, women shall seek to cast off their role as mother and a woman. Woman will cast it off under the direction of satan, and murder her children. Woe to the woman who does not repent of this vile abomination! She has walked the road to eternal damnation and hell.  Repent, O woman, or forever be lost!"
