News Limited (Australia) reported on December 27, 2002:

A baby has been born through cloning, French scientist and member of the Raelian sect Brigitte Boisselier have claimed.
The baby, a girl, was born on Thursday by caesarean section. The birth "went very well," said Boisselier, president of the human cloning society Clonaid, on the telephone.

The Vatican's Pontifical Council for the Family has stated:

The 'human cloning' project represents the terrible aberration to which value-free science is driven and is a sign of the profound malaise of our civilization, which looks to science, technology and the 'quality of life' as surrogates for the meaning of life and its salvation. On February 7, 1999, Pope John Paul II stated in his Angelus address: "I have received the declaration against human cloning signed by many university teachers in Rome. In expressing my satisfaction with their strong condemnation of human cloning, I wish to encourage university teachers to continue developing a new culture of human rights and to defend the human person, from his conception, from anything that violates his dignity." Furthermore, on October 23, 1982, the Holy Father forcefully stated, "I condemn, in the most explicit and formal way, experimental manipulations of the human embryo, since the human being, from conception to death, cannot be exploited for any purpose whatsoever."
