While the conclave that will choose the next Pope is only set to begin between May 6 and May 11, unofficially the Vatican is bustling with articulations and speculations.

While late Pope Francis stacked the voting college of Cardinals with hundreds of ‘progressives’, there has been, since Francis’ passing, a surprising surge of support for a conservative Cardinal, Robert Sarah, to be the successor to the Throne of Peter.

The Telegraph reported:

“Cardinal Robert Sarah of Guinea is exactly the kind of ‘anti-woke pope’ that many conservative and traditionalist Catholics yearn for after more than a decade in which the progressive element of the Roman Church has been in the ascendant.”

With Sarah, there’s no talk of same-sex marriage or gender ideology. He is attuned to ‘the dangers of Western secularism, Islamic fundamentalism and the threat uncontrolled migration poses to European culture and values’.
