Texas Democrat James Talarico, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate, falsely claimed the Bible is silent on abortion in a new video.

Meanwhile Talarico is asserting that his support for killing babies in abortion stems from his Christian faith, even though abortion involves killing children made in God’s image. This isn’t the first time the Democrat politician has lied about the Bible.

In a video shared by TheBlaze, Talarico stated: “I trust women to make decisions about their own bodies. I don’t think that’s a place for government. That’s a belief I hold not despite my faith, but because of my faith. Jesus never talks about abortion. The Bible is silent on abortion.”

Pro-life advocates immediately rejected the claim as false, pointing to explicit biblical prohibitions against the taking of innocent life and multiple passages affirming the sanctity of human life from conception.

The Ten Commandments, given by God to Moses in Exodus 20:13, state plainly, “Thou shalt not murder.” Pro-life Christians note that this commandment applies to the unborn, whom Scripture describes as fully human and known by God before birth.

In the Gospel of John, Jesus makes clear the connection between love for him and obedience to God’s commands, saying, “If you love Me, obey my commands.” Therefore, violating the commandment not to kill or murder is an express act showing hatred towards Jesus.

The Bible contains numerous verses that underscore the value of preborn life.

Among them: Jeremiah 1:5, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you”; Psalm 139:13, “You knit me in my mother’s womb”; and Genesis 1:27, “God created man in his image; in the divine image he created him; male and female he created them.”

Talarico, a Presbyterian who has previously preached that abortion restrictions make women “second-class citizens” and are “un-Christian,” has also cited the story of Mary’s pregnancy, saying the angel’s message to Mary showed “an affirmation that creation has to be done with consent.”

Pro-life leaders argue such interpretations twist Scripture. They say the Bible’s consistent witness — from the commandment against murder to God’s intimate involvement in forming life in the womb — leaves no room for the destruction of innocent unborn children.

Christians, they contend, are called to protect the vulnerable rather than endorse their killing under the guise of “choice.”

Talarico’s remarks come as he campaigns for the U.S. Senate seat in Texas. He will face the winner of the Republican primary between pro-life candidates Senator John Cornyn and state Attorney General Ken Paxton.
