Concerns are growing about the threat of Iran launching missiles into South Florida from Communist Cuba.

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush is warning about the potential threat posed by Iranian drones believed to be stationed in Cuba.

Bush raised the concern during an event for United Against Nuclear Iran, where he serves as chair.

“Iran has been a consistent threat to the united security interests of our country, certainly of Israel,” Bush said.

“And now, we see that it’s not just Israel and the United States, but the Gulf region as well.

“I also want to point out that the press reports that there are 300 of these [drones] in Cuba.”

Bush said the United States has the capability to defend itself but warned that drone swarms can overwhelm defenses.

He said, “Drones organize in clusters and can get through the defense capabilities, as we’ve seen in the Middle East as well.”

The warning comes amid growing concern that Iranian-backed technology in Cuba could put South Florida and other parts of the United States within range.

Bush said Iran has long worked with hostile regimes in the Western Hemisphere.

“I think it’s important to recognize that Iran has consistently been working with Cuba, Venezuela prior to the departure of Maduro from the regime, creating instability in not just in Cuba, but certainly in the region,” Bush said, referring to deposed Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.

Iranian Drone Threat Draws Scrutiny

Bush praised the Trump administration’s efforts to weaken Iran’s military capabilities.

He said, “We’re on the verge of creating a much more peaceable world by standing up against this aggression.”

Bush has long taken a hard line on Cuba.

Before his 2016 Republican presidential bid, he shared then-Sen. Marco Rubio’s (R-FL) opposition to easing relations with the communist regime.

Bush also argued against unilateral concessions to Havana.

“The idea of unilaterally changing our policy in return for nothing, I think, would yield nothing,” he told The New York Times in 2014.

His warning about Iranian drones in Cuba carries particular weight in Florida, where Cuban exiles have long viewed the regime as a direct threat to freedom and regional stability.

The possibility that Cuba could be hosting Iranian military technology has intensified those concerns.

Gimenez Warns Drones Could Reach New York

Rep. Carlos Gimenez (R-FL) joined Bush in warning about the danger posed by the drones.

Gimenez said the drones can carry heavy explosive payloads over long distances, according to NBC 6 South Florida.

“This particular model, there is about over 100 pounds of explosives,” Gimenez said.

“That’s a pretty big bang.

“That’s why they call them kamikaze drones — they crash into their target and they explode.”

Gimenez also told WPLG Local 10 that the drones have enough range to threaten much of the East Coast.

He said the drones have “a range of about 2,500 kilometers, which from Cuba can reach all the way to New York.”

In May, Axios reported that Cuba had acquired more than 300 military drones.

The report, citing classified intelligence, also said Cuban officials had discussed plans to attack the U.S. military base at Guantánamo Bay or Key West, Florida.

One unnamed senior U.S. official told the outlet that the buildup is a “growing threat.”

Hegseth Says U.S. Ready for Contingencies

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth warned during a visit to Guantánamo Bay last month that U.S. forces were prepared for possible threats.

Hegseth said American forces were “postured for any possible contingency.”

The Trump administration has sought to increase pressure on Cuba’s communist regime.

The administration has imposed a blockade to prevent energy resources from reaching the island for months.

Cuba has been hit by sweeping blackouts, and many Cubans have taken to the streets in protest against the regime.

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel responded to the Axios report by warning against U.S. military intervention.

He threatened a “bloodbath with incalculable consequences” if Cuba is attacked.

The comments underscored the rising tensions between Washington and Havana as concerns grow about Iranian-linked military threats so close to the American homeland.

Cuba-Iran Axis Raises New Concerns

The reported presence of hundreds of Iranian drones in Cuba would mark a dangerous escalation in the Western Hemisphere.

Cuba sits just 90 miles from Florida.

A hostile communist regime on the island with access to Iranian drone technology would create a direct security concern for the United States.

The threat is not limited to South Florida.

Gimenez warned that the drones’ range could extend as far as New York.

For years, Iran has used drones and proxy forces to threaten Israel, U.S. troops, commercial shipping, and American allies.

Now, Bush and Gimenez are warning that the same threat may be moving into America’s backyard.

The Trump administration’s pressure campaign against both Iran and Cuba is now being framed as a national security necessity.

The concern is simple.

America’s enemies are coordinating.

And if Iranian drones are sitting in Cuba, the threat is no longer across the ocean.

It is 90 miles from Florida.
