Syrian Journalist: Remnants of the Iranian Presence Are Dragging Southern Syria into a Conflict With Israel, Whose Price Will Be Paid by Syrian Civilians...
SYRIA HOLDS THE KEY
"Wars are a punishment for man's
sins. Syria holds the key to peace at this time. However, I place in front of
you, My children, a graphic picture for you to understand. It will be a parable
for some, and some will turn away not willing to hear what Heaven has to say in
these desperate times. – Our Lady, May 28, 1983

MEMRI.org reported on December 9, 2025:
On November 28, 2025, in the course of operational activity by IDF troops in the town of Beit Jinn in southern Syria, clashes broke out between the Israeli force and local militants. This IDF operation was part of Israel's increasing military activity in southern Syria since the fall of the Assad regime, aimed at preventing hostile and extremist elements that can threaten it from establishing a presence there and preventing weapons and gear of Assad's army from falling into their hands. The IDF has therefore been expanding its buffer zone in southern Syria, an area which, in Assad's time, saw extensive activity of militias backed by Iran and Hizbullah.
The incident in Beit Jinn renewed fears within Syria of an attempt by Iran and Hizbullah to exploit the tensions in the south of the country in order to strengthen their influence over armed groups in Syria and encourage them to attack Israel, in an effort to destabilize the country and facilitate their return there.[1] One of these armed groups is the ‘Islamic Resistance Front in Syria – Formidable In Might,’ which is affiliated with the Iranian axis and has already operated against Israel on several occasions.[2] Although the group itself has not claimed responsibility for firing on the IDF forces in Beit Jinn,[3] a statement it published following the incident condemned the Israeli strikes and added: "We will continue to resist and resist until Syria and Palestine are liberated from the Israeli occupation… We promise the Zionist enemy that we will not allow this aggression to pass without an imminent response.’[4]
According to a December 3, 2025 report in the Saudi Al-Majallah magazine, in the recent months the Formidable in Might militia has increased its efforts to obtain weapons and recruit activists, including Palestinians, especially former members of militias backed by Iran and Hizbullah. It has also been claiming that it will be the one to oppose Israel, not the new Syrian regime that has replaced the Assad regime. The magazine specified further that the recruitment efforts are focused in the area along the border with Israel.[5]
In an article published on the Syria TV website following the incident in Beit Jinn, Syrian journalist Muhammad Ihab Al-Shabib warned that the presence of the Islamic Resistance Front, which is linked to the Iranian axis and operates in Syria outside the authority of the state, provides Israel with a pretext to expand its military activity in the country and in fact drags southern Syria into an open confrontation with Israel, whose price will be paid by Syrian civilians.
The following are translated excerpts from Al-Shabib's article:[6]
“The operation in Beit Jinn is not the first of its kind. Situated at the foot of Mount Hermon, this town has known repeated search operations and arrests in recent months, and more than seven youths were detained, whose fate is unknown. Southern Syria has become a complicated arena, as Israel has imposed a new reality [there] by deploying in formerly demilitarized areas and conducting patrols almost daily under the pretext of ‘pursuing armed operatives’…
"In the midst of this, the Islamic Resistance Front – Formidable in Might’ [militia] emerged, as one of the groups that formed amid the power vacuum and the proliferation of regional actors and which increase the danger on the border of the occupied Golan.
"Studies show that this group, initially called the Southern Liberation Front, [first] appeared in late 2024, and reintroduced itself under its current name in early 2025. It uses a logo similar to that of Hizbullah and adopts the same resistance-axis discourse on Israel and on the Turkish and Western presence [in Syria]. The name 'Formidable in Might' itself was inspired by a 2024 Hizbullah media campaign and appears repeatedly in speeches by the organization’s leaders. Some research institutes associate the group directly with the Iranian network of threats, and view it as part of an attempt to replicate the model of the ‘resistance proxies' in post-Assad [Syria], within a network that extends from Lebanon to Iraq and Yemen. In other words, this is an ideological-military group operating on the Golan border under the banner of ‘resistance,’ but in practice it is opening an [Iranian] proxy front in an area already exhausted by destruction.
“On November 8, 2025, the group’s military spokesman, Abu Al-Qassem, released a recorded address in which he attacked the new Syrian government and its allies, presenting himself as an alternative to the state and threatening ‘to respond to all Israeli attacks at the appropriate place and time’… In its statement after the [Israeli] attack in Beit Jinn, the group declared that this aggression ‘would not pass without an imminent response’ and pledged ‘to liberate Syria and Palestine.’ The language used – ‘the bastion of Arab resistance’ and ‘we will not surrender’ – is the hallmark of resistance-axis discourse.
“Although the Israeli aggression is reprehensible and constitutes a blatant violation of Syria’s sovereignty, the problem is not with the occupation alone, since the Formidable in Might group operates outside the framework of the state, presents itself as being above its institutions, and is connected to a regional axis that regards Syria as an arena [for advancing its goals] rather than as an end [in itself]. Moreover, it is dragging southern Syria into an open confrontation with Israel… Thus, the ideological groups that are remnants of the Iranian presence in Syria, and perhaps also ISIS, become the best pretext [for Israel] to expand its incursions and bombardments, as happened in Beit Jinn.
“Condemning the Israeli aggression is a moral and political duty, but the defense of [Syria's] sovereignty is not the job of groups that operate outside the framework of the state and impose themselves as representatives of the people without having received a mandate [to do so]. The Syrians of Beit Jinn and elsewhere have the right to resist the occupation, but they also have the right [to object to] their villages becoming testing grounds for groups that [only] claim to be ‘resistance,’ while the villages themselves pay the price of the Israeli response. The defense of Syria requires a clear national plan, not groups [serving] a cross-border axis.
"[Abu Al-Qassem, spokesman of the Formidable in Might militia,] who peddles the illusion of 'liberating both Palestine and Syria' in his recorded address, while knowing that the [Israeli] response will target civilians, is not much different from the one who fires the shell on the other side…"

"The judgment of your God is not akin to the judgment of man. The Eternal Father will only judge by the heart. Your rank, your accumulation of worldly goods does not set you up before another. Many have sold their souls within the holy House of God. Better that you strip yourself and remove all worldly interests now while you have the time to make amends to your God, for many mitres will fall into hell." - St. Thomas Aquinas, August 21, 1972
