Officer fired for expressing Christian views on homosexuality says dismissal is "destroying" him and his family...

A Norfolk County police officer who was fired for quoting the Bible regarding the immorality of homosexual sexual relations says that he is "totally devastated" by what has happened to him.

"It was a job I loved. This is destroying me and my family," Officer Graham Cogman told the Daily Mail last week.

Cogman was reportedly dismissed from his position in late November after he sent an email quoting Biblical passages denouncing homosexual behavior, and another e-mail linking to a ministry in the USA that seeks to cure homosexuals of their condition.

Cogman says he sent the emails after being "bombarded" with emails sent by police department employees promoting the "gay" agenda, including messages urging him to wear a pink ribbon in honor of "gay history month." He reportedly responded to one email from a homosexual liaison officer with the Christian saying, "Love the sinner, hate the deed."

There are no reports of firings or discipline against the employees of the police department who promote homosexual behavior.

Police officials claim that Cogman violated department regulations regarding computer use, as well as regulations requiring "politeness and tolerance," according to one media report. "This officer's behavior fell well below what we expect of our people," said department spokesman Ian Learmoth.

"In the service in general there is a feeling of fear," Cogman told the Daily Mail. "There is a definite bias against faith – any faith – if it takes a critical view of homosexual sex."

"The easy option for me would have been to keep quiet but when there is such prejudice towards one point of view, how can that be right? That doesn’t sound like equality and diversity to me," he added.

The Rev Martin Young, vicar of St Andrew’s church in Norwich, has written an open letter to the Norfolk police department blasting their actions.

"His views are not extreme or unusual," writes Young. "They are consistent with the published understanding of the Church of England, of which he is a member."

“The phrase 'Love the sinner, hate the deed' is a common Christian aphorism which encapsulates the Christian's duty to love all people, regardless of their lifestyle choices," the letter continued. "This is presumably also what the service intend to convey in their diversity policy."

“PC Cogman made measured responses in a spirit of openness and honesty, and for this he should be lauded, not punished."

Cogman is reportedly appealing the decision with the help of the Christian Legal Centre.

Vatican attacked for defending natural family...

The Vatican has been attacked for its defence of the natural family and of the countries in which the natural family is still recognised and protected in law. Homosexualist groups and newspaper editorials today attacked the Vatican’s representative to the United Nations, after he said that the Vatican will not support a resolution that purports to “decriminalise” homosexuality.

The proposal, put forward by France, is set to be brought to the European Union later this month. While the Vatican, an independent state, is not a part of the EU, it holds Permanent Observer status at the UN.

Archbishop Celestino Migliore, the Vatican’s representative at the UN, said that the proposal could lead to reverse discrimination against countries that only recognise natural marriage between a man and a woman. “Countries that don't recognize the union between people of the same sex as marriage will be punished and pressured.”

Archbishop Migliore told the French news agency I.Media that the proposal is “sad and outrageous” and was a form of “modern savagery that will dismantle our society from the inside out.”

“If adopted, they would create new and implacable discriminations,” Migliore said. “For example, states which do not recognise same-sex unions as 'matrimony' will be pilloried and made an object of pressure.”

Migliore’s message was underscored by the lack of interest for the resolution, with only about 50 countries out of the 192-member General Assembly offering to support it.

An editorial in Italy’s La Stampa newspaper, however, called the Vatican’s reasoning “grotesque” and accused the Church of supporting the death penalty, which is still levied against homosexuals in some Islamic countries. La Stampa accused the Vatican of fearing a “chain reaction in favour of legally recognised homosexual unions in countries, like Italy, where there is currently no legislation.”

Franco Grillini, founder and honorary president of Arcigay, Italy’s leading homosexualist political lobby group, said the Vatican’s position was “total idiocy and madness.”

Homosexualist groups were quick to react with protests. ANSA news agency rushed to cover the appearance of about 20 activists protesting today in Genoa. They unfurled a banner reading “The Vatican is an accomplice in our martyrdom,” ANSA reported. The Italian Communist daily newspaper, Liberazione, invited protestors to take their grievance directly to the Vatican, saying that protestors could attend the Pope's weekly Sunday address in St Peter's Square “wearing pink, a shirt or something else.”

Vatican spokesman, Jesuit Fr. Federico Lombardi, director of the Vatican press office, responded saying, “Obviously no one wants to defend the death penalty for homosexuals, as some would insinuate.”

“The well-known principles of respect for the fundamental rights of the person and the rejection of all unjust discrimination -- recognized clearly by the Catechism of the Catholic Church itself -- evidently exclude not only the death penalty, but all violent or discriminatory penal legislations in relation to homosexuals,” Lombardi said.

But, Lombardi continued, the proposed UN resolution from France does not seek solely the "decriminalization of homosexuality."

Rather, “it introduces a declaration of political value that could result in systems of control, according to which, every norm -- not only legal, but also related to the life of social or religious groups -- which does not place every sexual orientation on exactly the same level could be considered as contrary to respect of human rights.

“This could clearly become an instrument of pressure or discrimination against those who, just to put a very clear example, consider marriage between a man and a woman to be the fundamental and original form of social life, and as such, [believe] that it should have a privileged place.”

Pro-life and pro-family leaders have warned that the use of the language of “human rights” and “equality” have been manipulated by the homosexualist political movement and their secularist supporters to suppress principled opposition to the movement’s anti-Christian goals.

Gabrielle Kuby, a German Catholic writer, wrote recently in an article featured on LifeSiteNews.com, that the movement is a direct attack on the social foundations of western society. “Behind the facade” of equality, she wrote, “lurks the general attack on the moral standards to which we owe the Western culture. Without it, neither the family nor Christianity can survive.”

Interview – Philadelphia Cardinal Rigali: The Church will never justify homosexual conduct...

Cardinal Justin Rigali, the Archbishop of Philadelphia is always ready to answer questions, even the hard ones. He spoke with LifeSiteNews.com last week at the International Eucharistic Congress about the Church's teaching on sexuality, in the context of the current attack on the traditional definition of marriage.

Asked why it has become more common to see some elements within the Church promoting what is contrary to official Church teaching on homosexuality, Cardinal Rigali was quick to point out that it is not 'the Church' but members of the Church which do so at times.

"This goes back to the time of St. Paul," explained the Cardinal, "St. Paul says they will be teachers with itchy ears." He added: "They will come up with all kinds of doctrines and this is what's happened in the history of the Church and the history of the world and this will continue to happen."

Cardinal Rigali said however that it was an "aberration" to justify "homosexual conduct and worse than that homosexual marriage."

"The Church accepts people as they are," he said. "Jesus says the church is like a net, it pulls in everybody, everybody belongs to the church, there are sinners, there are saints, there are people with wrong ideas. But the Church continues to proclaim what Jesus taught."

"There is no room in the Church for the acceptance of aberrational ideas," he said. "There is room in the church to accept, to understand and to love people whoever they may be. Not to tell them that what they are advocating is right, not to justify it. That is quite different. That is totally, totally different."

Cardinal Rigali, who is also the President of the Pro-Life Committee of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops, suggested that no amount of pressure would get the Church to alter its position.

"There are some people that say the church is intolerant - no! We accept people but we cannot be unfaithful to Christ. We will not accept gay marriage. The church has explained this over, and over and over again and she will have to continue to explain it."

Addressing people with same sex attraction he said, "these are good people and our way of treating them is very important. The respect we show them and even the understanding of their personal situations. But just because someone is in a personal situation does not mean we can change our teaching to accommodate the person."

On getting the teaching of the Church across in today's culture, Cardinal Rigali said "The Church has to continue, St. Paul says, ‘praedica verbum’, preach the word in season and out of season and that's what we do."

However, he added, "This is something we have to teach in the most effective way possible, with clarity yes, with fidelity yes, with sensitivity. We can't take people and choke them and say you're going to be doing it and you're going to follow the teachings of the Church and this is the teaching of the Church. No. St. Paul says in omnia patientia doctrina, speaking to Timothy, ‘with all patience and following the teaching’, following the teaching, these are the two elements."

"We present the beauty of human sexuality," he said, "we explain God's plan. We try to understand people who have the same sex attraction we try to help them; try not to speak platitudes to them but tell them what God's plan is and how they are to face their life."

The Philadelphia Archbishop concluded: "That's why we have organizations like Courage and Encourage because for parents it's a very, very difficult thing. But God's plan is to be presented in all its beauty, all its power with fidelity."
