“I was only one step away from insanity.”

One who thirsted eagerly for God was Charles de Foucald whose prodigal and shocking way of life provoked so much gossip in Paris that he was the butt of violent feelings and jokes among French soldiers.

Born September 15, 1858, of fabulous wealth, at one point of his shady life he stated: “I was so completely selfish, so completely vain, so completely irreligious, and utterly given over to wickedness, that I was only one step away from insanity.”

God seemed to him to be infinitely remote - if He existed at all!  He used to enter St. Augustine Church in Pads, repeating over and over “My God, if You exist, let me come to know You.” One day, as a priest elevated the Consecrated Host, he was overheard to say: “My God, You are real!”

“In a single instant,” he said, “my heart was touched and I believed.”  The Most Blessed Sacrament, until his death, dominated his whole life.  To stir others to seek and find God dwelling in the tabernacle that they too may be touched to the quick, share in his discovery, and come home to the Creator, “that Power which erring men call chance,” he composed this prayer:

Oh Jesus, present in the Most Blessed Sacrament in our churches, You give us solace and refuge.  You give us faith, hope, love and hospitality.  You build for us an inner retreat, an ardent repose.  Help us to seek You, and find You in the Tabernacle.

I found myself speaking to the Most Blessed Sacrament in the Catholic Church...

Elizabeth Ann Seton, a convert, was the first native-born United States citizen to be canonized.  What brought her into the faith, and what seemed to her too good to be true, was the Real Presence of Our Lord in the Most Blessed Sacrament.

Upon the death of her husband, she was seeking peace of mind in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in New York.  She later wrote to a friend: “I got in a side pew in which I was positioned in such a way that I was facing St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church in the next street.  And I found myself speaking to the Most Blessed Sacrament in the Catholic Church, instead of looking at the naked altar where I was....”

What can be more exciting, inspiring, engage one’s attention more, and crystallize one’s own belief, than testimonies of Protestants who have discovered Jesus' loving Heart in the Most Blessed Sacrament of the altar.

Elsie Briggs “What attracted me was love.”

It all goes back about ten years when beaten and disillusioned I crept into the rear of the Mission Church in Roxbury to rest. I didn’t go in because I was attracted to the church, or because I sought spiritual refreshment; it was only a place to sit down and get off my feet and find, if possible, a few moments of forgetfulness.

How long I sat there, I don’t know, but I suddenly became aware of something living. There was an actual presence all around that seemed to emanate from the altar.  It was pleasing and restful to feel.  And without half realizing what I was doing I moved up front until I was sitting in the first pew.

The weariness and strain all fell away and a great sense of peace and love came over me, combined with an intense desire to sleep....

And right here and now l want to explain that at that time I knew absolutely nothing about the Catholic teachings.  No one had ever told me of the Host or of the ever present living God on the altar....

For the first time I learned how wrong the average Protestant is in his supposed knowledge of the Roman Catholic Faith.  There certainly is nothing more ignorant than nine Protestants out of ten, when it comes to the teachings of the Church of Rome.

The Light of Truth exposed all the old wives’ tales, all the lies I had heard from childhood about Catholics.  What a pity there should be such ignorance of God’s truth and how many Protestants, such as I was then, would gladly and eagerly accept the church and her teachings if they only knew the truth that sets one free....

There is nothing brilliant or scholarly that attracted me to the Roman Catholic Church. What attracted me to Catholicism was love.

The saints were fully aware that Christ in the Most Blessed Sacrament is a reality - that in the Most Blessed Sacrament His Heart is living, beating, loving, and waiting to refresh us with His graces.

“He cured them and He can cure you.”

Fr. Aloysius Ellacuria, C.M.F., founder of the Missionaries of Perpetual Adoration, had a young mother come to him in the early 1970’s, eyes filled with tears, an aching body saturated with cancer, and given little time to live.  He took her into the chapel asking her, “Have you ever asked our Lord to cure you?” “No,” she replied.  “Well,” he said, “Let us kneel down right here in the front of the Most Blessed Sacrament, and let us ask Him to cure you.”  “You know Our Lord is really present in the Most Blessed Sacrament; do you believe that?”  “Yes,” she promptly replied.  Father continued, “Our Lord is the same as He who walked on this earth 2,000 years ago; and who blessed the sick and healed the sick.  Do you believe that He is the same Lord that is here living in the Most Blessed Sacrament?”  “Yes, He is,” was her pain filled response.  “Well, He cured them and He can cure you.”

Together they prayed a series of “Our Father’s, Hail Mary’s and Glory Be’s.”  After three of each the startled woman said: “Father, I don’t think it is necessary to go on - I feel healed!”

X rays were taken the next day and the astonished doctor said: “All the cells that were attacked by the cancer are now like the cells of a newborn baby.”

This was but one of many cures Fr. Aloysius was responsible for while in the presence of the Most Blessed Sacrament imploring Our Lord for assistance.

Jesus’ teaching

The Jews quarreled among themselves, saying “How can this man give us His flesh to eat?” Jesus said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the son of man and drink His blood, you do not have life within you” (John 6:52-53).

If Christ did not mean what He said, why would He have turned to the Apostles, to whom He would give the power to change bread and wine into His Flesh and Blood, and say: “Will you also go away?”  In other words, “Will you too not believe, and walk away as these who refuse to believe Me?”

Those who heard Christ speak the doctrine of the Real Presence, coupled with the attitude of the Lord, prove the authenticity of the literal meaning.  It simply is not possible to interpret these words of Christ in any way except in reference to the actual reception of His holy Body and Blood.  The circumstances of the Last Supper give added reason for taking Christ’s words literally.

He continued to reaffirm His words, which the Jews found so difficult to accept by saying, only moments later: “My Flesh is true Food and my Blood is true Drink” (John 6:56).

Early Witnesses to the Real Presence…

Christians from the very beginning believed in the Real Presence of Jesus in the Most Holy Eucharist, which proves that the belief had to be given by Our Lord.

Thus St. Paul said: “The chalice of benediction which we bless, is it not the communion of the Blood of Christ? And the bread which we break, is it not the partaking of the Body of the Lord?”

St. Ignatius of Antioch (d. 117) says: “The Most Holy Eucharist is the Flesh of our Savior Jesus Christ.”

St. Justin Martyr (d. 167): “We take this not as ordinary bread nor as ordinary drink, but, as Jesus Christ our Savior.”

St. Irenaeus (d. 203): “Wine and bread are by the word of God changed into the Most Holy Eucharist, which is the Body and Blood of Christ.”

St. Hippolytus of Rome (d. 235): “He hath given us His own divine Flesh and His own precious Blood to eat and to drink.”

The "Little Miracle"...
Father Leloir was interned at Buchenwald, where at 6 p.m. each day the prisoners and deportees were lined up for inspection by the S.S. troops.  On the evening of August 23, 1944, Father Leloir had carefully concealed on his person a small white envelope containing six consecrated Hosts, which he intended to distribute secretly among his comrades. The presence of the Blessed Sacrament on the person of the priest was known to several fellow-prisoners.
Consternation filled all when the soldiers began to search the prisoners one by one. What would be the fate of the priest when the envelope containing the Hosts was found? Too well they knew what punishment would be given him.
And what unspeakable irreverence would be done to the Sacred Hosts!
Down the line the S.S. troops contemptuously searched each man, and finally came Father Lelior’s turn. Into his pockets one after another the Nazi soldiers pried, and found the “evidence.” Father Leloir stood erect, a trifle pale, but silently praying to the Lord whose Precious Body was within the folds of the white envelope. His companions trembled and grew faint.
With an insolent air the S.S. guard tore open the envelope. Several prisoners gasped. Father Leloir stared in open amazement-as the Nazi soldiers threw the envelope scornfully to the ground saying: “Just an empty envelope.”
Just an empty envelope! The Hosts had disappeared! To prevent the desecration of the Sacred Hosts and to save the priest and his fellow Catholics from certain punishment, perhaps death, Our Lord had worked this “little miracle!”

Flying Hosts...
One of the last Sundays (June 21st or 28th, 1970) at the seven o’clock Mass, in the Beauceville church (Quebec, Canada), the parish priest, Father Charles Eugene Houde (about 50 years old) was the celebrant.  He had already told his parishioners that they were permitted to receive the Holy Host in their hands, according to the directives given by the Archbishop of Quebec.  This day, before the Mass, he told his parishioners the following: “Henceforth, to avoid complications, everyone of you will receive the Host in your hand for Communion."  That was against the Bishop’s directions that allowed the people the freedom to take the Host either in their hand or in their mouth.
At the moment of the Communion of the Mass Father Houde turned to the people, holding the Ciborium in his hand.  Before he had time to take a single Host and take a single step, about fifty consecrated Hosts flew out of the Ciborium by themselves.  They went up into the air, circling themselves around and around the priest, then slowly fell to the ground.
Father Houde was so struck by the prodigy that his faced turned white and for a few minutes he remained motionless.  Being interiorly inspired he said to the faithful who were approaching the altar, “Henceforth, all of you will receive the Holy Host on your tongue, not in your hand, because God just gave us a sign.”
The priest knelt down and picked the Holy Hosts scattered on the carpet, and distributed Holy Communion.  Back in the presbytery he said, “Never again in my life will I give Holy Communion in the hand.”

Mother Theresa…
In 1963 the nuns in Mother Theresa’s convent started making a Holy Hour each week. In 1973 she and her sisters started making a Holy Hour each day and then her religious order began to really grow and blossom. Today she is legendary. She has hundreds of convents around the world and thousands of nuns in her order taking care of the poor. This is an example of the fruits from making a daily Holy Hour before Our Lord in the Most Blessed Sacrament.

The amazing Bayside Prophecies...

VERY LONELYThe host is presented to believers during sacred communion, and is the body of Christ.
"My Son is very lonely in His House.  Won't you come with compassion and ease His loneliness?  You do not abandon those you love. Have you no love for your Creator?  Have you no love for He Who gave His life upon earth for you?  Have you no love for He Who still sheds His Blood for you?" - Our Lady, March 18, 1973

WEEP
"The greatest strength for you, My children, is to remain with My Son by the tabernacles of your world. Go to them, My children, while you still can, for the day will come when they will be closed to you. Weep with My Son; pray with Him, for you hold the balance for the destruction or the salvation of mankind." - Our Lady, April 17,1976

ELIXIR OF LOVE
"Less and less honor is being given to My Son in the Eucharist. Will you not love Him? Express and act upon your love by comforting My Son in the tabernacles of the world. Visit Him more often, for He grows lonely in His House. Graces in abundance shall be given to all who seek My Son in the Eucharist. "Hasten, repair to the tabernacles of the world, My children, while the doors of My Son's houses, His Church upon earth, are still open to you. Many countries shall be deprived of this source of great grace, and there shall be anguish of heart. Accept this elixir of love, My children the Bread of life, the Eucharist." - Our Lady, November 20,1979

TABERNACLES
"Satan cannot take the light from you if you remain with My Son in the Eucharist. Pray, My child, that the doors of the tabernacles are not shut to your country so great are the conquests of satan." - Our Lady, December 24,1974

RECEIVE DAILY
"Receive the Eucharist daily. I come to you; I am with you." - Jesus, August 4,1979

REVERENCE
"My children, you must join your hands in reverence at the Sacrifice of My Son. It is an expression of love, gratitude, and respect. Reverence and respect and holiness must be returned to My Son's Houses, Churches, throughout the world, reverence, holiness, and respect from the beginning to the end of the sacred service!" - Our Lady, September 6,1975

QUIETUDE
"You must enter the houses of your God properly clothed and with goodness of heart, not disporting yourselves as pagans.  A quietude must be returned to the house of God - "You come to communicate, My children, in spirit and body with My Son Who is with you in your Eucharist in Spirit and Body, a true physical Presence. Many now are despoiling His Body! How many have set themselves to solace Him in the evil that is about the world now?!" - Our Lady, March 22,1975
