Sniper - "Your children are not safe anywhere at any time."

ROCKVILLE, Md. –– Hours after a bus driver was killed in a shooting that appeared to be the work of the Washington-area sniper, police said Tuesday they received a message warning: "Your children are not safe anywhere at any time." The chilling warning apparently was discovered by police Saturday night at the scene of a shooting outside a Virginia steakhouse. Police said in came in the form of a "postscript."

Montgomery County Police Chief Charles Moose also said police "will be responding soon" to the latest message and did not take any questions from the media.

Two other law enforcement sources told the AP the letter also contained information that police interpreted to be a vague threat to children. One of the sources, who also spoke on condition of anonymity, said the letter was "lengthy." Schools in the Richmond area, near Saturday's shooting, remained closed a second day Tuesday.

POPE URGES ROSARY TO PRESERVE WORLD FROM TERRORISM

VATICAN, Oct 1, 01 (CWNews.com) - At his Sunday public audience on September 30, Pope John Paul II said that the memory of the September 11 terror attack on the United States will be remembered as “a somber day in the history of humanity.”
    Having returned to the Vatican after several weeks at his summer residence in Castelgandolfo, the Pope addressed a group of several hundred pilgrims in St. Peter’s Square, after the solemn Mass that marked the formal opening of the Synod of Bishops.
    The Holy Father reminded his listeners that October is dedicated to the Rosary, and urged all Catholics to pray the Rosary for the cause of peace in the world and “so that the world might be preserved from the terrible iniquity of terrorism.”
    In the face of terrorist attacks and threats of war, the Pope continued, the Catholic Church must “be faithful to her prophetic charism, and call all men to their duty to build a path toward peace for the human family.” In an oblique reference to the prospects for American reprisals against terrorists and their sponsors, the Pope added: “ Peace certainly cannot be distinct from justice, but justice must always be seasoned with mercy and love.”
