Saint Padre Pio of Pietrelcina (May 25, 1887 – September 23, 1968)...

You must accept and follow the example of your saints, those who have been given this honor by your holy Church. They, too, My child, did not win their crowns without trial, rejection, and often, martyrdom." - Jesus, June 5, 1975
The following was written by John Paul Wohlscheid. This story was published in the bulletin of St. Mary's Church, Lowell, Michigan. Maybe you could have it published in your own local parish bulletin.
Padre Pio was born on May 25. 1887 to Grazio and Maria Forgione and given the name Francesco. He was raised in small Italian farming community named Pietrelcina. He had one older brother and two younger sisters, as well as two siblings who died in childbirth. By the time he reached the age of five, Francesco knew that he wanted to dedicate his life to God. He often served Mass at the nearby Santa Anna Chapel. Even at an early age, Francesco was given the grace to see and converse with his guardian angel, Jesus and Mary.
After a Capuchin friar visited the village seeking donation, Francesco decided that he wanted to do the same. A nearby Capuchin monastery was willing to accept Francesco, but they required that he receive more education. Seeking to fulfil his son’s wishes, Grazio traveled to America to find work. On January 22, 1903 at the age of fifteen, Francesco took the habit of a Capuchin friar and selected the name Pio, after Pope St. Pius V. After a period of study and discipline, he was ordained on August 14, 1910. About month later, while praying, Jesus and Mary appeared to Padre Pio and gave him the Stigmata, the wounds of Christ. These wounds combined with the ill health that he had to endure throughout his life gave Padre Pio much to offer up. Because they caused a commotion among the friary doctors, Padre Pio asked God to take away “the annoyances”, asking to suffer in secret.
Padre Pio was sent home due to ill health. He continued to live the life of a friar at home by teaching school and offering Mass. He was drafted into the Italian Army in 1917, but was discharged in 1918 due to ill health. After returning to Our Lady of Grace Capuchin Friary in San Giovanni Rotondo, Padre Pio became a popular spiritual director. In July 1918, Pope Benedict XV called for all Christians to pray for an end to the War. In response, Padre Pio offered himself as a victim soul. God’s acceptance was swift. On September 20, 1918, while praying in the choir loft, Padre Pio was visited by the Crucified Christ, who gave him the visible stigmata he would have for over 50 years.
Besides the stigmata, God also granted Padre Pio many other spiritual gifts including: prophecy and bilocation, the ability to be in two places at once. The parish church filled with pilgrims as word spread. Padre Pio would spend 19 hours a day saying Mass, hearing confessions, and answering letters. However, not everyone was favorable toward Padre Pio. Between 1922 and 1934, Padre Pio’s ministry was limited pending a church investigation. However, Pope Pius XI lifted the ban, saying “ I have not been badly disposed toward Padre Pio, but I have been badly informed." The flood of pilgrims continued and increased to such a degree that a large church needed to be constructed.
Over the next thirty years, Padre Pio worked day and night to care for the spiritual needs of those who came to him. One of those was a young Polish priest named Fr. Karol Wojtyla, who was told by Padre Pio that he would one day ascend to "the highest post in the Church though further confirmation is needed." Padre Pio was frequently attacked by the devil, during which he would often resort to his weapon, his rosary. In the late 60s, after years of long hours in prayer and confession, his health rapidly began to deteriorate. He passed away on September 23, 1968. He was canonized by Pope John Paul II on June 16, 2002. He is honored on September 23.

Our Lady now
is rising very high up into the sky, and She's--now the sky is becoming very,
very bright, very bright, and Our Lady is pointing upward with Her hand, and
there is a tremendous white cross now forming in the sky. It's a brilliant
cross. And now--it's a large cross, but behind it, I see many, many smaller
crosses. They are also white. It's like a field, a whole field of crosses.
Our Lady - "My child, you are observing many who shall wear the white robes in
