Moral theologian: Benedict XVI Called Gender Ideology ‘the Ultimate Rebellion Against God’...

Dr. John Haas, a moral theologian and former member of the Pontifical Academy for Life, revealed in a May 13 commencement speech given at Christendom College that in 2014, then-retired Pope Benedict XVI told him in a private conversation in the Vatican that “the next great challenge the Church is going to face is gender ideology, and it will be the ultimate rebellion against God the Creator.”
Speaking to the 114 graduates of Christendom College in Front Royal, Virginia, Haas admitted that he was “surprised” by Pope Benedict’s unsolicited comment, and added that he now sees Benedict “was prophetic. We have been hit with a tsunami of transgender ideology.”
As an example, the former president of the National Bioethics Center mentioned that “Catholic health care institutions are being sued because they refuse to perform mutilating surgeries on men who want to be surgically altered to look like women or women who want to appear as men. Catholic academic institutions are also being sued and attacked as they simply try to continue to give witness to the truth of their students being either male or female.”
Haas received on this occasion from Christendom College the St. Thomas More medal for Defense of the Faith and Holy Mother Church.
In his last Christmas address to the Roman Curia as acting pope in 2012, Benedict XVI himself had elaborated on the dangers of the gender theory. Referring to the famous quote of French author Simone de Beauvoir, “one is not born a woman, one becomes so,” the pope then explained that “these words lay the foundation for what is put forward today under the term ‘gender’ as a new philosophy of sexuality.”
Further expounding on this destructive theory, the pontiff went on to say: “According to this philosophy, sex is no longer a given element of nature that man has to accept and personally make sense of: it is a social role that we choose for ourselves, while in the past it was chosen for us by society.”
For him, the “profound falsehood of this theory and of the anthropological revolution contained within it” is “obvious.”
Pope Benedict then reminded his audience of the biblical creation account, according to which “being created by God as male and female pertains to the essence of the human creature. This duality is an essential aspect of what being human is all about, as ordained by God.”
But today’s gender theory rejects this plan. Benedict continued by saying: “Man calls his nature into question. From now on he is merely spirit and will.” “From now on,” he added, “there is only the abstract human being, who chooses for himself what his nature is to be.”
This new concept has very destructive consequences for the family, the late pope explained. “If there is no pre-ordained duality of man and woman in creation,” Pope Benedict expounded, “then neither is the family any longer a reality established by creation. Likewise, the child has lost the place he had occupied hitherto and the dignity pertaining to him.”
In summary, the rejection of God as Creator leads to the loss of the human dignity. “The defence of the family is about man himself,” according to the pope. “And it becomes clear that when God is denied, human dignity also disappears. Whoever defends God is defending man.”
Only a few months after this Christmas address, in February of 2013, Pope Benedict XVI resigned the papacy.
To return to Dr. Haas’ own commencement address on the topic of transgenderism, the moral theologian and father of nine children quoted the Second Vatican Council’s Pastoral Constitution Gaudium et spes: “When the Creator is forgotten, the creature itself grows unintelligible.” Comments Haas:
In our day, the Creator has been forgotten, and we now live in a world which is simply unintelligible. We no longer know what a man is or what a woman is. We no longer know what marriage is, what a family is. If we no longer know what such concrete realities are, how will we possibly be able to conceive abstract realities such as justice, fortitude, or charity? When the Creator is forgotten, the creature itself becomes unintelligible.
Therefore, Haas called upon the graduates of Christendom College to oppose this “evil generation,” and not only that, but also to help build a “new Christianity.” Quoting from St. Peter in Acts – “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation!” – Dr. Haas told the young graduates: “ I call on you to heed the apostle’s call but to extend it. Save yourselves from this corrupt generation so that in the years to come you can work to save this corrupt generation.”
As examples of this current “corrupt generation,” the moral theologian mentioned “abortion, same-sex marriage, physician assisted suicide,” and “transgender ideology,” all of which are “attacks on the very image of God.” “Could the world in which you are entering as college graduates be more disordered and confused?” Haas asked.
“Your task will be to help re-order the world,” he continued. “It will be your task to work to bring it once more into alignment with what God created it to be.” Such a “forging of a new Christian society,” he expounded, will “be no easy task,” and it will “require sacrifice, the enduring of social opprobrium, perhaps even martyrdom in some fashion or another.”
Catholic Bishops, Parishes across Europe Hosting Pro-LGBT Prayer Vigils for Greater ‘Inclusion’...

A number of bishops and priests are taking part in an annual series of ecumenical, pro-LGBT events across Europe, to mark the “International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia,” which will also see participants meet with Pope Francis.
From May 5 through June 7, a number of Catholic churches in countries across Europe will be host to numerous events, promoting the LGBT lifestyle and in opposition to “homophobia and transphobia.”
With most events taking place in Italy, churches in Amsterdam, Spain, Poland, France, and Malta will also take part in the ceremonies, many of which have been organized as ecumenical ventures with Waldensians, Methodists, Baptists and Catholics all joining together.
The four-week long project is under the overall organizational control of La Tenda di Gionata – a group “aimed at making ‘known the path that LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Christians) take every day in their communities and in the various Churches.”
The group looks to present tales of LGBT “experiences” so that they “can help society and the Churches to open up to the understanding and reception of homosexual people.”
They have taken Scriptural passages as an aide in promoting the LGBT events, drawing from Matthew 10:40: “Whoever welcomes you, and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me.”
Indeed, some of the events will be joined by Catholic prelates, with at least two Catholic bishops advertized as taking part already.
On May 16 in Genoa, the archdiocesan episcopal vicar will join ecumenical counterparts for a prayer vigil in the church of San Pietro in Banchi. Then Parma’s Bishop Enrico Solmi will lead a diocesan vigil on the evening of May 17, while on June 7 the Archbishop of Cosenza-Bisignano will lead a vigil in one of the parishes of his archdiocese.
On May 18 in Palermo, a torchlight procession will take place, followed by a prayer vigil at a Catholic parish which is organized by “many Catholic, Evangelical and secular associations from Palermo with the patronage of the Municipality of Palermo.”
Many of the other listed events are based out of Catholic parish churches and also include torchlight processions.
However, the most notable event of the four-week period is on May 17, when participants in the project will meet Pope Francis after his weekly general audience in St. Peter’s Square. The Mosaiko group – a group of “LGBT+ Christians” based in Rome – said its meeting with the pope “will be a way for the group to celebrate this event, symbolically presenting itself to the Church of Jesus.”
The intent is to contribute, as other groups of Rainbow Christians have already done, to urge our Church to be more inclusive, because ‘Whoever welcomes you welcomes me’ (Mt 10.40).
In a separate press release prior to the Papal audience, the Mosaiko group wrote they “will present ourselves with feelings of conciliation, urging more meetings for a dedicated, inclusive journey so that everyone can feel like a child of a Church that welcomes not for what we should be, but for what we really are: Christians and witnesses of the same Gospel, in which everyone with their own identity, orientation and individuality can live in transparency and truth.”
They also called for an increased role of LGBT ideology in the Catholic Church’s daily life:
Our desire is to make the Church take a more official and truly tangible stand in favor of a clear and inclusive ministry with no more description.
We would like that in all corners of the world the dignity of LGBT + people can be recognized with respect and sensitivity even in those places where it is still a crime to make oneself visible to affirm one’s orientation and one’s gender identity.
Messa in Latino – who highlighted this year’s series of events – described the audience with the pope as “real icing on the cake.” The blog questioned whether Francis would repeat his condemnation of gender ideology which he made in Hungary, or if he would “in pure Jesuit style – adapt to the desires and expectations of its interlocutors?”
As the official day against homophobia and transphobia, May 17 is also to be marked by special “liturgies” at the various LGBT events. An order of service contains a mixture of readings, songs and Psalms.
It also twice refers to God as “Father and Mother of us all.” Another “prayer” asks for divine help for all those called to assist God in “the work of transforming the world, that girls and boys, women, men, and non-binary people might live, work, and learn together with respect and dignity.”
“For health workers and social workers, that accompany body transformations: God, in your mercy, hear our prayer,” it continues. After a litany of such intercessions, the Protestant version of the Our Father is recited.
This year’s series of pro-LGBT events is by no means the first of its kind. Numerous Catholic dioceses in Italy took part in the vigils last year, as noted by LifeSiteNews at the time. Among the various prelates who participated was Archbishop Charles Scicluna, the pro-LGBT Archbishop of Malta and the adjunct secretary at the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF).
Just as with previous years, this year’s events are being promoted by way of blasphemous, rainbow themed images, including rainbow-colored images of the Sacred Heart.
Despite this Catholic promotion of LGBT arguments, Catholic teaching on transgender issues remains unchanging, as the Catechism of the Catholic Church states: “Everyone, man and woman, should acknowledge and accept his sexual identity.” (CCC # 2333)
The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith’s 1975 document, Persona Humana, also echoed this with the words, “There can be no true promotion of man’s dignity unless the essential order of his nature is respected.”
In his first letter to the Corinthians, St. Paul states that homosexual actions are sinful, explaining that “neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers” will “inherit the kingdom of God,” but rather, according to his letter to the Romans, those who practice homosexuality will receive “in their own persons the due penalty for their error.”
Catholic University Exposed for Allowing ‘Transgender’ Males to Live in Women’s Dorms...

The University of St. Thomas in Minnesota has in the past allowed gender-confused men to live in women’s residence halls, according to comments made by the school’s residence life director.
Director of Residence Zoe Chang can be seen on a video released by James O’Keefe’s new media group discussing a hypothetical situation with undercover journalists who asked about a “trans sister” living on campus.
Chang told the journalists the gender-confused male would get a discount on a double room as an “accommodation.”
“So you’ve had transgender students come here before,” a journalist asks in another part of the video. It is not clear if this comment came chronologically before or after Chang’s comments show at the beginning of the clip.

She said there would be a problem from “parents” who are Catholic and conservative. “Why are you letting that happen?” Chang hypothesized parents would say.
A separate university staffer said in a different phone call that a male student’s transgenderism would be kept secret from others.
Chang said in another part of the video that a gender-confused male could live with a female without that girl knowing that her roommate was “transgender.”
The journalist tells Chang it is good the university is being “inclusive.” The residence life director, while smiling, said the university is trying to move in “that direction” without being too outward about it.
LifeSiteNews contacted the residence life office and Associate Vice President of Public Relations Andy Ybarra on Monday morning and asked for comment on the video, how the university ensures all its policies and programming conforms to the Catholic Church’s teachings on gender and sexuality and if there was anything specifically that was misleading or false in the clip. Neither responded to the request for comment.
LifeSiteNews also contacted the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis to ask if it could comment on the situation and if it planned to discuss the problems of “transgender” individuals living in dorm rooms incongruent with their sex at the university. Director of Communications Tom Halden did not respond to the Monday morning email.
The university largely confirmed the substance of the video.
“If a student were to voluntarily disclose their transgender identity and ask to have a roommate, our Residence Life team would take steps to make sure both students are comfortable with the living arrangements, while abiding by privacy laws that prevent us from sharing a student’s transgender identity without their consent,” the university told Tommie Media.
The school continued:
In our experience, a single room is often the best option for a transgender student. Single rooms are first assigned to students who are granted single-room housing accommodations through Disability Resources. Once those assignments are made, Residence Life then assigns the remaining available rooms based on student requests, considering their personal needs.
Students at the university appeared to confirm the generally pro-LGBT stance of the the school in comments given to the campus media outlet.
The campus Queer-Straight Alliance told Tommie Media that the video was an “affront to the UST LGBTQIA+ community. Over the last 3-4 years, UST has made large strides in ensuring all students feel welcome at St. Thomas.”
“The comments in the video act as if all policies considering the LGBTQIA+ community is a dirty secret that only a few in the know truly understand what’s going on,” the LGBT club stated. “In reality, there are multiple departments on campus who strongly stand by and support the Trans Community, and the LGBTQIA+ community as a whole.”
Last year the College of Arts and Sciences also hosted a “teach-in” on the importance of “affirming” the disordered desires of “queer youth.” The university also published a series called “Pride Month Meditations” during June 2022.
The Catholic Church teaches that no person can change his or her sex.
“Everyone, man and woman, should acknowledge and accept his sexual identity. Physical, moral, and spiritual difference and complementarity are oriented toward the goods of marriage and the flourishing of family life,” the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC) states.
“Except when performed for strictly therapeutic medical reasons, directly intended amputations, mutilations, and sterilizations performed on innocent persons are against the moral law,” CCC 2297 states.
