Gay and lesbian newspaper reports: “Victory at Bishops Conference.”

The Windy City Times: The Voice of Chicago’s Gay and Lesbian Community ran an article with the title, “Gays Still Threatened in Catholic Church Despite Victory at Bishops Conference”. One sentence of this article reads:

“For gay and lesbian activists who were expecting a possible showdown in Dallas, the bishops' statement was a clear victory.”

As we reported in a previous article, Bishop Wilton Gregory, head of the NCCB, publicly disagreed with the Vatican’s February 1961 policy forbidding ordination of homosexuals on Meet the Press (June 16, 2002), when asked by Tim Russert: “The Pope’s spokesman, Navarro-Valls, had this to say: ‘Pope John Paul’s spokesman, Joaquin Navarro-Valls, questioned whether ordination of gays were even valid. ‘People with these inclinations just cannot be ordained.’ [New York Times, March 3, 2002] Do you agree with that?”  Bishop Gregory’s response: “I believe that that statement was perhaps more expansive than the tradition of the Church. It seems to me that the Church has spoken about living a holy integral life in a much broader context than that.”

Some of the best information on the homosexual issue, as well as practical solutions to the homosexual predation in the priesthood, has been given by the Catholic Medical Association.   In the CMA’s open letter to the U.S. bishops, they made a very important criticism of the Catechism of the Catholic Church:

“The Catechism of the Catholic Church states that homosexuality's ‘psychological genesis remains largely unexplained’ (#2357). While it is understandable that the writers of the Catechism would not wish to make a definitive statement about a question which is at the center of such a contentious public debate, this statement does not accurately reflect what is known about homosexuality. There is ample evidence that same-sex attraction has many different causes. These lead to significant childhood and adolescent emotional pain and psychological problems. Among males, these could include a weak masculine identity, social isolation and loneliness, peer rejection or a poor body image and in females, a mistrust of male love or a weak feminine identity.” (CMA, Open letter to the U.S. bishops)

It should be noted that Our Lady of the Roses criticized the Catechism of the Catholic Church on April 7, 1993:

“You cannot win souls with half-truths. It is a ploy of the modernists. God never changes.” (Our Lady, April 7, 1993)

And on April 18, 1993, Our Lady told Veronica that the Catechism was “humanistic.”

The Catholic Medical Association also takes to task the permissive attitude the U.S. bishops have towards homosexuality in the priesthood:

“Finally, priests should be screened for homosexuality by their bishops or religious superiors prior to being considered for a position of responsibility in a diocese, religious community or in the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. The previous attitude of "winking" at homosexuality in priests must end. Otherwise, all Church teaching on sexual morality is undermined. Also, complaints by priests of aggressive homosexual behavior in rectories and religious communities should be addressed and no longer ignored.” (CMA, Open letter to the U.S. bishops)

The Catholic Medical Association has rendered a tremendous service to the Church in the United States. They have affirmed the Church’s teachings on sexuality, have offered much needed scientific information to counter the homosexual propaganda, and have given many sound practical steps that the U.S. bishops can follow to protect our children from future abuse.

They are to be commended.
